Who is Jesus?
He was one of thousands who have died on a cross. One in the crowd of all those who’ve claimed to have the answers to life’s problems. And yet – two thousand years later – He is the most important person in the lives of millions of people.
Who was He? Or – if He’s telling the truth – who is He?
His name means “God will save”, and the three years of his life recorded in the Bible describe a man who healed sick people, performed miracles and by everything He did, showed us how good and loving God is.
Jesus said that everyone is created by one and the same God – in His image – and that God has chosen to build His relationship with us all on a basis of love. Love always requires a free will, gives us the opportunity to say yes or no, and to choose between life or death. But humankind chose wrong. They chose selfishness and independence and walked away from God.
But, above all, Jesus showed that God loved the world so much that He sent His own Son, so that whoever believes in Him wouldn’t be lost for ever but will have eternal life. Jesus came to tell us that there are no hopeless cases for God.
Jesus was far too provocative for the world around Him and His message way too radical for comfort. So He was arrested and sentenced to death. But what seemed like a failed promising career was in actual fact an intentional step in God’s salvation plan.
There, on a cross outside Jerusalem, Jesus took our punishment — yours and mine — on Himself. All the darkness in us — which produces the evil things which we say and do and that separates us from God who’s utterly pure and good, Jesus took upon Himself.
All the darkness, all the evil, all the fear, all the hatred – everything that causes those problems in our world that we’re desperately trying to solve – He bore in Himself so that you and I wouldn’t have to bear them any longer.
No other philosopher or religious leader has done anything like that. Only Jesus.
Three days later He rose from the dead. Jesus conquered death forever and now stands with open arms ready to welcome everyone to come to Him – every one who wants what He’s prepared for us all.
And people are coming. Every day tens of thousands all over the world are finding what it’s like to be forgiven and clean on the inside. Discovering what it’s like to pray to a God who hears and answers them, all because the darkness which once lay between us and Him has now been taken away. Experiencing what it’s like never to be alone anymore.
And however hard you may still find to believe it, the Bible tells us that this God is interested in you — personally. That He has a special plan for your life. That He loves you more than you can ever imagine.
In His eyes you aren’t a mere speck of dust in the vast universe. You’re not an accident or a product of chance. You’re a beloved son or daughter who’s welcome back to Him.
“Yes, Jesus”, or “No, Jesus”. You’re the only one who can decide and make the choice for yourself and your own life. Jesus can’t, and will never force you.
One day life will come to an end and the opportunity to choose will have passed you by.
But, today the door is still open to you.
If you want to take this step and come to Jesus —right where you are — you’re welcome to pray this prayer aloud. The words in the prayer aren’t magic, but if you pray them and mean them, Jesus will hear you. And something totally new will begin in your life.
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
PAUL’S LETTER TO THE ROMANS, CHAPTER 10, VERSE 9. (ESB)
Prayer: Jesus, I need You. I’ve been going my own way and have lost contact with You. But I believe that You died for me and rose again for my sake. I now open the door of my heart to You and say my yes to what You have done for me. Forgive me my sins and help me to live for You. Jesus, You are my Lord, here and now and for the rest of my life. Thank You for receiving me right now and making me a child of God. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer and honestly meant what you said, something completely new has begun. You’ve said your own “yes” to what Jesus has already done for you and you’ve become a child of God.
What happened when you prayed is not about feelings or experiences. God has promised that He hears us as we pray and that He welcomes us as His children — His sons and daughters.
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.

First – CONGRATULATIONS on your decision to receive Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. That’s the best and most important decision of your life — guaranteed.
Life with Jesus is a relationship. He wants you to get to know Him and He wants to talk to, and listen to you.
- The Bible God wants to speak to you and He’ll do this first and foremost through the Bible. It isn’t just an ordinary book among all the others. It’s the single most important tool in your hands for building your personal relationship with Him. In it, God reveals to us who He is and shows us His character. And the more you know about Him, the more you’ll confidently trust Him and place your future in His hands.
- Prayer God wants to listen to you. When you express yourself in words from your heart to Him —that’s prayer. He longs for that.
- Church When you’ve come to Jesus you’re a child of God and have become a part of God’s great worldwide family. God’s family meets for fellowship with Jesus every week — usually Sundays— and to get to know one another in a local church.
